Calculate Expected Unemployment Benefits

If you have recently lost your job, you may qualify for unemployment benefits. Weekly unemployment compensation amounts are based on the amount of money you earned before you were unemployed. The amounts vary from state-to-state, which means one calculation does not exist for estimating your benefits amount. As long as you have your earnings information, you can plug the data into a benefits estimator or calculator to determine your expected amount of compensation.

Instructions

1. Gather your last paycheck stub for each job that you held in the past 18 months. If you cannot find a paycheck stub, you can use a W-2 instead.

2. Separate the paystubs and W-2s into groups. You need five groups for each of the most recent five calendar quarters, which are three-month periods.

3. Use a calculator to add up your total wages in each of the first four quarters. These quarters make up your base period and the fifth quarter does not count. The amount you earned in the base period is what your unemployment benefits are based on, which is why you need total wages for each quarter.

4. Go to your state unemployment website and use the expected benefits calculator, if your state offers one, to calculate your benefits. Alternatively, use the Unemployment Benefits website (see Resources) to calculate the amount. You must enter in the wages for the first four quarters to get your expected benefits amount. If you use the Unemployment Benefits site, you must first enter in your state, employment status, education level and zip code. After you do this, you will be presented with an advertisement. To continue to the benefits calculator, click on the "To Skip This Offer, Click Here" link above the ad.

Cool Off After A Hot Workout

Cool Off After a Hot Workout

When the temperatures soar, it's important to add a cool-off step to your exercise routine. Try these ideas the next time you need to lower your body temperature after an outdoor workout.

Instructions

1. Immediately after a hot workout, grab some cool water and stretch out your muscles while they are still loose. Keep your head above your heart so you don't feel lightheaded or pass out.

2. Either jump in a cool swimming pool or soak in a bathtub. In the tub, once you get comfortable with the temperature, drain half the water, then refill with cold water. Repeat several times.

3. Get inside an air-conditioned room immediately after your workout. If you have a fan, turn it on high.

4. Put a cold towel on your face and neck.

5. Drink water, even past the point of thirst. Opt for cool, but not cold water because the body absorbs cool water faster.

6. Once inside, take off your shoes and hat to quickly release body heat.

7. Eat cool snacks such as frozen grapes or fruit popsicles. Avoid sugary or highly caffeinated drinks.

Dress For Skiing

Ski clothing not only looks great, it'll keep you warm and dry. Here's what to wear to keep that mountain chill at bay on the slopes.

Instructions

1. Determine the climate. Breathability is important if you ski where it's warm and dry, insulation is necessary where it's cold, and water-repellence is crucial where it's wet.

2. Choose underlayers in polypropylene and fleece, or alternatively, wool and silk. These materials absorb little water, dry quickly and keep you warm. Avoid cottons, which dry slowly and become cold and heavy when wet.

3. Buy waterproof pants that will fit over ski boots, are not too long and allow you to bend easily at the hips and knees.

4. Choose thick socks with a stretchable fiber; they won't lump and cause blisters.

5. Buy waterproof gloves or mittens if your hands chill easily.

6. Buy a windproof, waterproof jacket with a removable lining that can accommodate thick layers for cold days.

7. Cover your ears with a hat or headband.

8. Choose sunglasses or goggles that offer 100-percent protection against UV rays and are large enough to shield your eyes from wind, blowing snow and wind chill.

Find A 5k Run

Are you getting what you want out of your 5K Runs? What inspires you to seek out and run these races of approximately 3.11 miles? Some people just enjoy the thrill of the run. As their sporty shoes pound the pavement and they intrepidly trek from Point A to B, they enjoy every minute. Others want to do more than just move from Point A to Point B. Some people enjoy the camaraderie of running with other people---particularly in large runs or races in which hundreds or thousands of people participate. Others like to run for a cause. Many 5K runs raise money for non-profit organizations. Even then, there are still 5K runs, combined with other challenges and obstacle courses, to wet the appetites of the most avid athletes. You must decide what you want from your 5K run before you can find it.

Instructions

Decide What You Want from Your 5K Run

1. Determine if you just want to move from Point A to Point B during your run. A quick hint: there is no "right" or "wrong" intention here. That is the great thing about running. It is all about you and what you want. Ok, so maybe it is actually about you and the pavement, but it is primarily about you. Determine if this is your only goal.

2. Decide if you would like to participate in a run that raises money for a charitable cause. Even runners who just want to move from Point A to Point B may want their entry fees to go towards a charity. Determine if this is one of your goals for your upcoming 5K Run.

3. Decide if you want to intermix any other zany activities with your 5K Run. For example, some organizations host events which feature a 5K Run, obstacle course and scavenger hunt. Other organizations may feature an event with a 5K Run and after hours party. Determine if you want to add some fun to your 5K run.

Decide Where You Want to Run Your 5K

4. Determine whether or not you want to run your 5K somewhere close to your home. Many people want to wake up on race day, roll out of bed, throw on a hat, drive to the run location and get it done. This is a convenient way to run your 5K.

5. Decide if you would like to travel outside of your own city for your 5K run. This can be fun and adventurous. Is there a city nearby that you have wanted to visit? Perhaps you even want to venture several cities away, stay overnight and turn your 5K race into a true adventure.

6. Determine if you want to travel outside of your state for your 5K Run. If so, you have just upped your fun and adventure-o-meter. Many runners never think about these options. If you have the time and the means, you could combine your 5K run with a tour of a city in another state that you have never visited.

Search for the 5K Run of Your Dreams

7. Athlete Oriented Magazines for run and race listings. Some of these magazines are organized by regions; others are national publications. You can probably find local or regional athlete oriented publications at your community health stores. Go to your local bookstore and check the magazine racks to find national publications. Look for a list of upcoming athletic events, including 5K runs and races. Search the events for what you seek, whether it is a standard run, charity event or a run coupled with an obstacle course.

8. Search the Internet for 5K runs. If you want to run something locally, use a search engine to look for a running club in your city. That running club will likely have a list of upcoming runs and events. You can also conduct this same search in other cities and on a national basis as well. Do not forget that theme parks often host 5K runs throughout the year.

9. Talk to your friends who like to run. Ask where they find their 5K runs. Then either tag along with them or use their resources. You can consider joining a local running club, where you can meet people who like to run. Then, you might also be introduced to people who enjoy running charity events or going out of the city or state for 5Ks. You can build a network that will keep generating more 5K run finds forever.

Calculate Miles Per Hour When Running

Running

The fastest person in the world can run between 23 and 24 miles per hour for 100 meters. Usain Bolt from Jamaica set the 100-meter sprint world record in 9.58 seconds at the 2009 Athletic Championships in Berlin. Germany. To calculate how fast you can run on average in miles per hour, you need to divide the distance you cover (in miles) by the time required to run that distance (in hours).

Instructions

1. Distance in miles

Measure the course that you have run or will run. Many runners wear a watch that measures the distance. There are 1,760 yards in a mile, and there are 3,600 seconds in an hour.

2. Time in hours

Say, for example, you run 50 yards in 6.9 seconds. Divide 6.9 seconds by 3,600 seconds (6.9/3600) and the result is .0019--your time in hours. Divide 50 yards by 1,760 yards (50/1760) and the result is .0284--your distance in miles.

3. MPH=Distance in miles/Time in hours

Plug the distance and time into the following formula: Distance/Time=Miles Per Hour. The distance in miles is .0284 and the time in hours is .0019 so .0284/.0019=14.947 miles per hour. Thus, you are running at an average speed of 15 miles per hour at a 50-yard distance.

Cope With Being Friendless

Maybe you are an introvert and find it difficult to build relationships. Maybe you've had a recent relationship breakup. Maybe you've made changes like a new job or moving to a new city. Whatever the reason you find you are friendless, you will need to cope.

Instructions

Discover Your Talents

1. Start a new hobby. Think of something you've always wanted to do or that you might enjoy. Hobbies include collecting, scrap booking, sewing, quilting, knitting, ceramics, painting, and photography, fishing gardening, boating, hunting, writing, music, electronics and karaoke.

2. Learn a new language. This will increase your knowledge and strengthen your brain. You can also study with another student or get a tutor. Languages take time and concentration, so focusing your attention on this is an excellent way to cope with being friendless.

3. Enroll in some classes or workshops. Community colleges, YMCAs, parks and recreation centers offer adult classes. Subjects include arts and crafts, computer, dance, languages, cooking and gardening. You can also find workshops on investing, bird watching and bridge.

4. Become active. Walk, jog, bike, hike or swim. Learn golf or tennis or join an intramural sports team in your area. Exercise makes you feel better and provides another way to cope with being friendless.

5. Read. Novels let you immerse yourself in other situations and places. Also, consider biographies of people you admire and self-help books. Having the time to read is an advantage of being friendless. If you want to be more social, join a local book group.

Reach Out and Meet People

6. Consider helping others by volunteering. Nursing homes, charity organizations and animal shelters are some places that accept volunteers. Also, check into sponsoring kids or families. Caring for others is a admirable method of coping with being friendless.

7. Join a club. Join extracurricular activities or a student chapter of a professional society if you're still in school. Professional societies, service and social clubs may be open to new members. Check Meetup.com or Craigslist.com for other groups meeting in your area.

8. Spend time on the Internet. There are many social networking sites available online. Popular ones include MySpace, facebook and Yahoo Groups. Others are specific like Shelfari for book lovers, TravBuddy.com for travelers, and flixstar for movie buffs. You may find you have many more friends online than you were able to have in person.

Buy The Right Shoes For Teenage Cross Country Runners

Running can be very hard on your body, especially cross-country running, because of all of the different surfaces you run on. Having the right shoes to support your body as you run is very important and can help you avoid injuries. Buying shoes can be a difficult thing, because you never know shoe is going to work until you actually run in it. To help you to select the best cross country shoe, especially if you're a teen with still-growing feet, follow the steps below.

Instructions

1. Go to a store that specializes in sportswear. If you go to a store that sells other types of shoes besides athletic shoes, it could become very confusing, and the salespeople will probably not know assist you properly. When you get to the store, go straight to the area where the running shoes are displayed. Stay away from the sales racks, because you do not need to look for a great deal when your comfort and support are the critical factors.

2. Browse the shoe department looking for different kinds of athletic shoes, not only the ones that are labeled cross-country running shoes. Try to narrow it down to a few different pairs based on the way they look to you.

3. Check shoes for features that would make them good cross-country running shoes. They should not be too bulky or heavy. If your running shoes are either, they will slow you down and be uncomfortable. Try to find shoes with a good grip on the bottom and mesh somewhere on the sides (so they will breathe), and that are lightweight and provide good support for your feet and ankles.

4. Test the shoes on your feet. Try on the pairs of shoes that you like. You can run around the store or back and forth, to give you some idea of how they will perform when you train or compete in them. Jumping in the shoes is also a good way to tell if they support your foot. If they are uncomfortable at all, you should try a different pair, because it is very important for your running shoes to be extremely comfortable. If your foot is very narrow or wide, it is usually a good idea to select shoes that are specifically made to fit these foot types, to ensure maximum comfort and support.

5. Find the correct shoe size. A shoe that is too big or too small can be incredibly painful and create many foot problems. You want the size that gives your toes plenty of room to stretch and expand without having your foot slide around inside the shoe. There should be a finger’s width between your big toe and the end of the shoe. When you are selecting running shoes, do not try to buy a shoe that your feet can grow into. Instead, you need to buy the correct size.

Decorate Composition Notebooks Using Scrapbook Supplies

Add flair to an ordinary composition book by decorating it with scrapbook supplies.

Composition books, which you may remember as those bound notebooks with the black-and-white patterned covers, serve as an ideal base for scrap art creations. These notebooks come in different sizes and can be used for a variety of purposes. Mini composition books work well for making shopping lists or taking notes. Larger composition books can be used to keep track of school assignments or as a journal. Decorate composition books using scrapbook supplies to customize the book for yourself or as a gift.

Instructions

1. Select the size of notebook and decide the purpose of the composition book.

2. Select a pattern or color combination from your scrapbook supplies. Cut scrapbook paper to cover the entire composition book. For larger books, you may want to cut separate pieces of paper for the front and back covers.

3. Use a corner rounder to round the corners of the scrapbook paper so they match the rounded corners of the composition book.

4. Glue the paper to cover the notebook. If you are using liquid adhesive, apply it sparingly and use a bone folder or plastic card to smooth out any wrinkles in the paper. If you choose spray adhesive, use it in a well-ventilated area and apply it to the back of the scrapbook paper. Press the paper onto the front and back covers of the composition book and let the adhesive dry.

5. Cut a 2-inch strip of paper to cover the binding of the book so you don't see where the two separate pieces of paper split. Decorate the paper strip first by using stitching or metal embellishments such as brads, eyelets or beads. Apply the adhesive to the decorated paper strip and apply to the spine of the composition book.

6. Decorate the front and back of your composition book. Depending on your theme, pull the look together with stamped images, chipboard letters or frames, die cuts, stickers or other scrapbook supplies you have on hand.

Calculate How Many Calories You Need Daily

Calculate the number of calories you need each day to maintain your weight or reach weight loss goals.

While 2,000 calories may be the default number of calories that daily nutritional values are based on, the number of calories you actually need each day depends on your gender, weight, height, age and activity level. The Harris-Benedict formula can be used to determine the estimated number of calories you need each day to maintain your weight.

Instructions

1. Calculate your basal metabolic rate (BMR) using the following equation: 655 + (4.35 x your weight in pounds) + (4.7 x your height in inches) -- (4.7 x your age in years) if you are female. If you are male, use the equation: 66 + (6.23 x your weight in pounds) + (12.7 x your height in inches) -- (6.8 x your age in years) to determine your BMR. Your BMR represents how many calories your body requires to maintain basic functions.

2. Calculate how many additional calories your body requires based on your activity level. If you are sedentary or engage in very little activity, multiple your BMR by 1.2. If you are lightly active or exercise lightly between one and three times a week, multiply your BMR by 1.375. If you get moderate levels of exercise, multiply your BMR by 1.55. Multiply your BMR by 1.725 if you are very active and exercise six or seven days a week. If you exercise extremely hard, are in an athletic training program or have a job that consists of hard labor, multiply your BMR by 1.9. The result from multiplying your BMR by your activity factor is the total number of calories you need to consume each day to maintain your current weight.

3. Subtract 500 from the total number of calories you must consume each day to maintain your weight if you are trying to lose weight. A deficit of 500 calories a day equals a deficit of 3,500 calories a week, which is equivalent to one pound. To lose weight at a slower rate, subtract 250 calories from your daily caloric needs.

4. Add between 250 and 500 calories to your estimated daily caloric intake if you want to gain weight. An extra 500 calories each day will lead to weight gain at a rate of one pound per week.

Control Your Breathing While Fighting

Breathing is an important part of martial arts or fighting sports.

In martial arts, boxing or any other fighting sport, breathing techniques are an important part of the lessons. Learning to control the breath during a fight can make the difference between a victory and a loss. When breathing is not controlled during a fight, the lack of oxygen can slow down the body. Controlled breathing will provide optimal oxygen during a fight.

Instructions

1. Take a deep breath through the nose. During a fight, it is important to breath through the nose rather than breathing through the mouth. Dr. Jacob Jordan, the author of "Total Mind Body Training," states that nose breathing delivers oxygen most efficiently to the body.

2. Breathe out through the mouth. In martial arts, this exhale is often accompanied by a vocalization. At the same time as the exhale or vocalization, the body should complete the fighting move, such as a kick or a punch.

3. Move your hand or foot back after striking on the inhale. Repeat the process throughout the whole fight.

Donate Eggs For Money In Wisconsin

Infertility is something many couples face. Couples who have exhausted medical treatment to have a biological child may choose egg or sperm donation to create a family. Egg donors, in Wisconsin as well as in other states, can earn between $3,000 to $10,000 per egg donation as of November 2010. The state of Wisconsin does not govern egg donation; rather each egg donation clinic will establish requirements that you must meet to be accepted as an egg donor.

Instructions

1. Go to the library or bookstore to get books regarding infertility and egg donation. Make sure you understand the process you are getting into. Egg donation requires you to endure multiple office visits, medications, injections, blood draws and a surgical process to retrieve the eggs. You must also understand that while you will have a biological tie to the resulting child, you will not be the parent of this child and will likely have no contact regarding any resulting child.

2. Visit FertilityNation.com or FertilityClinicsDirectory.net to find clinics that deal with egg donations in Wisconsin. Wisconsin has several medical offices and egg donor agencies with whom you can choose to work. Wisconsin also has a reproductive endocrinology department within the Medical College of Wisconsin. Ask your obstetrician for recommendations for egg donor clinics or other physicians who need egg donors. This will serve as an additional resource for places you can contact.

3. Contact the clinics to inquire about the exact requirements for egg donation. Each clinic or agency will have varying requirements. General requirements are to be between the ages of 21 to 30, to be in good medical health, to have either had a child or given a child up for adoption and to pass a psychological exam. Some clinics will allow a person over age 30. Ask for the fees covered with your donation. If you have donated eggs in the past, you will be considered a proven donor and will earn more money for your egg donation.

4. Narrow down your choices for the egg donation clinics you feel most comfortable with. You are not required to use an egg donor clinic in Wisconsin, but if you choose to work with an agency outside of Wisconsin, you will need to be able and willing to travel for several weeks to complete the egg donor process. The cost of this travel is usually covered by the egg donor agency or clinic.

5. Complete the process for applying with the clinic or agency you choose. You will be required to fill out an application, meet with the clinic and pass all medical and psychological testing. If you are accepted, your profile will be sent out to prospective intended parents. If you decide to work with an egg donor clinic outside of Wisconsin, you may be allowed to have your medical testing performed in a local Wisconsin clinic and have the results sent to the agency. Testing usually involves ruling out any serious medical conditions as well as sexually transmitted diseases.

Control Type 1 Diabetes

Type 1 diabetes is often referred to as “Juvenile Diabetes” because it occurs during a child’s early years or adolescence. In Type 1 diabetes, the individual’s body does not produce any insulin. As a result, the individual must watch his or her diet in and take insulin shots in order to keep blood sugar under control. Taking insulin shots and following a strict diet are just a couple of things that a Type 1 diabetic must do in order to keep his or blood sugar under control. Read on to learn control Type 1 diabetes.

Instructions

1. Count your carbohydrates. Since carbohydrates are converted into sugar it is important for an individual with Type 1 diabetes to count the carbohydrates in each meal and base their insulin dosage on that. It is important to count the carbohydrates accurately or you will experience hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) or hyperglycemia (high blood sugar).

2. Eat meals and snacks on a schedule. For an individual with Type 1 diabetes, it is important to stick to a schedule. Since the individual must take insulin, he or she must eat on time. Try to stick to a strict meal and snack schedule in order to keep blood sugar under control. Write down what you eat in your food log and then write down your blood sugar in your glucose log.

3. Test your blood sugar. Every doctor will say that one of the most important things a diabetic should do is test his or her blood sugar. Oftentimes, you will feel it if your blood sugar is too high or too low. However, if you don’t have the precise numbers you cannot treat your blood sugar efficiently and it’s possible your blood sugar will go too high or even too low after you treat it.

4. Regularly exercise. Many studies show that diabetics who exercise experience better blood sugar control and oftentimes, the amount of insulin they need is reduced. Aim for at least 30 minutes of exercise each day. The exercise you choose can range from brisk walking to aerobics.

5. Treat high and low blood sugar immediately. If you feel symptoms of high or low blood sugar, test yourself immediately. Symptoms of high blood sugar include perspiration, fatigue and frequent urination. Symptoms of low blood sugar include shakiness, perspiration and irritability. If your blood sugar is too high, treat it with a quick acting insulin and if it’s too low, drink juice or take glucose tablets immediately. Remember that keeping your blood sugar under control is the key to a healthy life.

Check For A Genuine Breitling Navitimer

Check for a Genuine Breitling Navitimer

Breitling is a Swiss watch company that originally made watches for aviation. They are most commonly worn now as luxury watches, but all Breitlings still feature chronometers that can be used during flight. Breitling first sold the Navitimer in 1952. The Navitimer features a circular slide rule, which can compute all flight plan calculations. Breitling Navitimer replicas are commonly sold online when the buyer cannot see the watch before purchase. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Look at the Breitling logo on the second hand. It will feature the signature "B" and anchor. A genuine Navitimer will have a metal logo on its second hand that is not smudged. On a fake Navitimer, the anchor may be fused into the "B," or the "B" will not appear like it does in the Breitling logo.

2. Look at the complete Breitling logo under the 12 o'clock position. This logo features the wings, "B" and anchor. None of the features should be fused together. The logo is also slightly raised from the face of the watch. It should not look as if a logo sticker was placed on the watch.

3. Make sure the chronometer functions properly. Chronograph watches are expensive to make and a replica Navitimer most likely will not have a fully functioning chronometer. There should only be numbers around the outside of the chronograph dials, not days of the week or months.

4. Turn the watch face down and look at the engraving on the back of the watch. The engraving should be clean and deep. A fake watch will typically only have a stamp or etching of the correct wording on the back of the Navitimer. You will easily be able to tell the difference between quality engraving and a stamping. Consult the Breitling website for a 360-degree picture of what a Navitimer should look like.

Dump Your Girlfriend Without Hurting Her Feelings

Break ups need to be handled with sensitivity.

If you know that your girlfriend is wrong for you, then it is time to end the relationship. That can sound easy at first, but can be very difficult to execute, especially if are afraid of hurting her feelings and breaking her heart. However, the worst thing that you can possibly do for both of you is drag on a relationship is you are unhappy. Learn break up with someone with decency, tact, maturity and caring.

Instructions

1. Explain your reason for wanting to break up with clarity. Breaking up to a girlfriend with vague and convoluted reasoning can just leave her upset, paranoid and more confused. Before breaking up with her, take a long hard look at your thought process and examine your true reasons. Make sure your decision is truly how you feel. Whether you feel you are taking different paths in life or fight too much, be honest and open with her about your reason to terminate the relationship for good.

2. Firmly close the door on the relationship. One mistake people often make when breaking up is leaving hope that the relationship might have a future again someday -- even when it doesn't. Avoid giving your girlfriend false hope about the future if you intend on breaking up permanently. This will only lead to hurt feelings and more heartache for her in the end.

3. Avoid breaking up on the phone. Break up with your girlfriend face-to-face, in person. Breaking up through a phone call can come across as heartless, impersonal and just plain rude. Take the effort and time out to do so in person. Don't chicken out and do it over the phone, as convenient and easy as it may seem at the time.

4. End the relationship as soon as you realize it is over. As soon as you determine that the relationship has no future and is going nowhere, break up with your girlfriend. Don't allow time to pass with the feelings lingering inside of your head. Remaining in a relationship you want to flee is unhealthy and can leave you with feelings of resentment and suffocation. Stringing your girlfriend along is also selfish. Avoid wasting your time and hers. Break up with her as soon as you come to your realization.

5. Break up with your girlfriend privately. Breakups can be very emotional situations. Provide your girlfriend with the dignity of a quiet and private location when you break up with her, whether it is at your house or in a quiet nook of a park. Avoid taking her to a romantic spot (such as a favorite restaurant), however, as that could lead her into thinking you are about to propose marriage to her, rather than end the relationship.

Cure Armpit Rash

Armpit rash can cause pain, itching, and unsightly patches of skin. While often the conditions causing underarm rash are not serious, the discomfort can be difficult to manage. Often you can avoid underarm problems by following a few simple rules of hygiene and using common sense. Don't share towels or personal care products such as deodorant; keep towels from contacting surfaces like benches and gym floors; and wash towels and clothing often.

Instructions

Address Conditions

1. Keep the underarm area dry. After showering, blot with a towel. Allow the area to air dry or use a blow dryer on a mild heat setting to be sure all skin and hair are thoroughly dried.

2. Keep the skin from rubbing against other areas of skin by putting on a bandage or wearing tops with sleeves.

3. You can fight the buildup of underarm heat by wearing short sleeves that prevent skin-to-skin contact and also allow air flow and vent heat from the area.

4. Stop wetness as quickly as possible. If you tend to sweat frequently due to exercise or nervousness or during everyday actvities, consider carrying a change of clothing and switching to a dry shirt as soon as possible.

Eliminate Causes

5. Change to a hypoallergenic laundry soap and body soap. Temporarily discontinue using any cologne or perfume you normally apply to the affected area.

6. Change your deodorant or stop using it for a few days and see if there is any improvement. Pat on cornstarch or a similar drying agent instead.

7. To avoid further irritation of the skin, stop shaving, waxing or using other forms of hair removal until the area heals.

8. Try wearing shirts made of technical fabrics. These special blends help wick away moisture, eliminate friction and control body heat--three of the most common causes of underarm problems.

9. Use a zinc oxide or diaper rash ointment to help cover the affected skin with a protective barrier and dry it out.

10. Lose weight. Extra folds of skin often trap moisture and create the right conditions for microorganisms to grow and irritate skin.

Dress For A Court Hearing

You don't necessarily need a suit to get on a judge's good side, but dressing sharp is not a bad idea.

So you're busted. You've been through the arrest, the booking and the bail. Now it is time to go to court. Whether you plan to plead guilty or take the case to trial, it is a good idea to present a nice appearance. Runway fashions or expensive duds aren't required. Even casual wear can be acceptable. A good standard is to wear what you'd wear to church, a job interview or grandma's house for Sunday dinner.

Instructions

1. Dressing properly could help tip the scales your way.

Know your surroundings. Remember that courtrooms are formal settings where some of the most important decisions in our communities are made.

2. Know your judge. Check on the Internet or in local newspaper archives to see if there are any stories about the judge scolding defendants for their appearance. Ask your lawyer if there are any special standards to consider.

3. Bypass any article of clothing with a hole in it, no matter how nice it may otherwise look. Don't even consider wearing anything decorated with foul language or pictures of drugs or guns.

4. Pick clothing for the courtroom, not the weather. Dress conservatively to be indoors in a semi-formal setting even if it will be 95 degrees as soon as you walk outside the courthouse. For men, this means choosing slacks over shorts and keeping shirts tucked in.

5. Dress shoes are better than casual footwear.

Choose closed-toe shoes over flip-flops and sandals.

6. Remember you're in court -- so lose the sunglasses.

Avoid overaccessorizing. Put sunglasses in a pocket or purse, not in your hair. Leave the hat off your head. Choose discreet earrings and jewelry. Ask your attorney for guidance on things such as nose, lip and eyebrow piercings.

7. Straighten up. Give yourself one last look in a mirror in a courthouse restroom before seeing the judge.

Calculate Mile Pace

When running, you can calculate your average pace, or time, required for running one mile.

Your running pace is measured as the time it takes you to run a mile, usually measured in minutes. This can be calculated as your best time for a mile lap on a track. If the track does not measure off an exact mile or only total time for multiple laps is measured, then your pace is extrapolated as an average. Average pace tends to be more common.

Instructions

1. Start your stopwatch when you begin running around a measured track.

2. Stop your stopwatch when you cross the finish line, and record your total time.

3. Multiply the number of laps by the track length to calculate your total distance. If you ran three laps around a 1-mile track, then you would have run three miles.

4. Divide your total time by your total distance to calculate your pace. In the example, if it took you 15 minutes to run the three miles, then you would divide 15 by 3 to calculate a pace of 5 minutes per mile.

Dress Kids In Cold Weather

It's easy to dress kids in cold weather.

Knowing dress your kids for cold weather is extremely important. The goal is to keep them warm and comfortable when they are playing outdoors or heading to school in the cold. If they are not dressed for the cold properly, they can suffer from cold, chills and frostbite, and in severe situations they can freeze to death. Understanding the basic elements of dressing for cold weather will put your mind at ease, and you will teach your children be prepared for the cold themselves.

Instructions

1. Wear a hat. Always. Fifty percent of body heat is lost through the head.

2. Cover all the skin. It's a good test before little ones leave the house to make sure all the body areas are covered. If it's extremely cold, a ski mask adds protection.

3. Layer clothing. Two or three layers of warm clothes are recommended. Air is captured between the layers, creating insulation. If it warms up a bit, they can always remove a layer.

4. Wear a jacket. Even if they think they will be indoors all day, you never know when they might get caught in a situation where they need one.

5. Wear waterproof boots or shoes with warm, dry socks. Warm, dry feet are key to keeping the body warm and comfortable.

Determine The Basal Heart Rate

Finding your basal heart rate helps you determine your fitness level and your target heart rate.

The basal heart rate, also known as the resting heart rate, can be useful in determining what your target heart rate should be during exercise. The basal heart rate can also provide clues about your overall cardiac health. Typical resting heart rate in adults falls between 60 and 80 beats per minute, although this varies with age and by gender. A resting heart rate which is too fast or slow may indicate an underlying medical issue that should be discussed with your doctor.

Instructions

1. Sit in a quiet place and relax for 20 minutes. Your heart will pump faster when you are moving around, so in order to determine the basal heart rate, sit still for at least 20 minutes to allow your heart to return to its normal rate.

2. Locate the pulse in your neck. Use your index and second fingers and place them on the carotid artery in your neck, just under your jawbone.

3. Using a stopwatch or a watch with a second hand, time your heart rate for a period of 60 seconds. If you miss a beat, start over to ensure an accurate reading.

4. Take several readings and average them to find out your average resting heart rate.

Change The Oil In A Ford Focus

The Ford Focus takes oil with a viscosity of 5W-30 or 10W-30. To change the oil, you'll need 4 1/2 qt. of new oil, a 13-mm wrench for the drain plug and a 3-inch oil filter wrench. Change your oil every 6 months for regular highway driving, or every 3 months for stop-and-go driving.

Instructions

Prepare Your Focus for an Oil Change

1. Lift your Ford Focus using a jack and then place the car on jack stands. If you don't have jack stands, drive the car onto a set of wheel ramps.

2. Pop the hood and remove the dipstick and oil filler cap. These components are usually near the engine, with the dipstick having a yellow handle.

3. Gather an oil drip pan, 13-mm socket wrench, 3-inch oil filter wrench, cleaning cloths and a new oil filter. Slide under your Focus.

Change the Oil

4. Locate the oil filter and oil drain plug underneath your Ford Focus. The oil drain plug is near the engine block, with the filter right nearby.

5. Remove the oil drain plug using the 13-mm wrench. Pull the plug out quickly and let the oil drain for 10 to 15 minutes. Check the gasket and threads for damage. Replace these components, if necessary.

6. Take off the oil filter using a 3-inch oil filter wrench. Dump the old oil into the oil drip pan and put on the new oil filter. Tighten the oil filter by hand, and then replace the oil drain plug using the wrench. Clean off the excess oil.

7. Go under the hood and add oil. Turn on the engine and check the oil pressure gauge to make sure it rises. If it doesn't, turn the car off quickly and add more oil.

8. Lower your Ford Focus and turn off the engine. Take an oil reading on the dipstick. If the oil level isn't at full, add a bit more oil.

Choose The Best Cross Trainer Shoes

Selecting a pair of cross-trainer shoes is a bit more complicated than your average footwear hunt. Not only should you take into account the type of sport you plan to engage in while wearing the shoes, but how they fit your feet and the athletic style. Special features add another aspect to consider when choosing the best cross trainers.

Instructions

1. Ask an expert such as a doctor or personal trainer to observe your feet as you walk and run. He should be able to tell you whether you are overpronate (if you have flat or fallen arches of the feet) or underpronate (usually with high arches and stiffer feet). This information can help you find the right cross trainer.

2. Think about the sports and activities you participate in and log onto the Web to read up on which cross trainers provide the best support for those activities.

3. Go shoe shopping, and take the sport socks you plan to wear with your new cross trainers to get a more accurate fit.

4. Try on different cross trainers to make sure your heels fit snugly in the back of the shoe and the ball of the foot fits in the wide part of the shoe with some breathing room. Also make sure there's some space between the front of the shoe and the tips of your toes.

5. Find a style that fits well and that you'll feel comfortable wearing frequently with your athletic gear.

Buy Wholesale Clothing For My Store

Find clothing wholesalers.

Clothing is one of the essential needs for any person. Stores that sell clothing determine their sector of the market. Either you sell designer clothes at very expensive prices, or you can sell in quantity for a low price. Of course, there are gray areas between these two extremes. In order to sell cheap, you must be able to buy even cheaper, and one of the best ways to achieve that is to buy wholesale.

Instructions

1. Make a budget. Before deciding anything, you need to have an approximate knowledge of how much money you have available to invest. Check bank accounts and profits from past sales, and determine how much money you can spend on this specific purchase. The budget should signal all the money you have, how much you can get and how much you want to spend. If there are any stockholders or investors, they should also review your budget.

2. Study the market. Locate as many wholesalers as you can find. You can find them in the yellow pages. Another good source is visiting Alibaba.com, which has a wide range of wholesalers around the world. You can also ask fellow stores to give you some contact information, although this could be tricky due to the fact some competitors are not keen in sharing their sources. Lastly, you can see the Resources section for examples. Talk to them, inform them of your needs, and get a proposal from them. Find which provider best fits your needs, including shipping, costs, time frame, availability and reliability.

3. Try to reach the best agreement possible. That is, a low starting price, short delivery timeframes and their best shipping policy. If they turn out to be good wholesalers, then you'll want to keep working with them. Be aware that the terms that have been settled at first will, almost always, be carried on for as long as you continue your business relationship with them.

4. Coordinate a down payment, usually 50 percent of the total amount and the rest shall be paid at delivery. Before paying, make sure a contract is signed, and when the shipment arrives, you should inspect every package for tears, rips, holes or other imperfections. If you find anything that is out

of the ordinary, withhold payment until the problem is solved.

Choose Running Shoes For Flat Feet

If the arches of your feet touch the floor or come close to it, you have flat feet. This can be a problem when picking out running shoes. Shoes for flat feet can over-compensate for the fallen arch, and a shoe without enough support can lead to muscle problems.

Instructions

Finding the Right Shoe

1. Consider the severity of your problem. Inserting thin foam supports sold at many sporting good stores may be enough of a solution. If these don't alleviate any discomfort, finding a shoe that offers stability or motion control might help. They tend to be thicker, heavier shoes. Technology and design are always improving, and many shoes for flat feet are more appealing to look at than they used to be.

2. Consider a few models that you are comfortable with and then make note of ventilation and lacing. Many running shoes are almost entirely mesh on the top. This allows for greater ventilation and less swelling of the foot. The lessened swelling can alleviate general foot discomfort. Lacing, often overlooked, has also improved. Many laces are now flat and have greater stretch to them. The stretch isn't to over-tighten the shoe, but to allow the shoe to absorb the constant pounding of the foot better. Rather than impose a cast-like feel on the foot, the newer laces make heel-to-toe transition more comfortable.

3. Insert your foot into your final few choices and note how your heel feels. A running shoe for a flat foot has a more supportive ankle support area. It should feel snug but not rigid. Some heel cushioning can also be somewhat stiffer in running shoes for flat feet, so if possible try the shoes on a treadmill. Many higher-end running stores offer treadmills or a track to try out shoes.

Build Stamina In Older Persons

Exercise builds stamina in people of all ages.

As you age, your stamina decreases unless you continuously work on building it. If you never build stamina, you will discover that daily activities, such as playing with grandchildren, going shopping and walking up stairs, will become burdensome. Stamina loss is primarily due to lack of energy, and according to HelpGuide.org, maintaining an active lifestyle is vital if you want to keep your energy levels high during your senior years. As you age, you must build your stamina if you wish to maintain good health and improve your overall quality of life.

Instructions

1. Perform 30 minutes of cardiovascular exercises every other day and add 1 minute to your cardiovascular routine total each week. Gradually increasing your exercise time puts less strain on your heart, muscles and joints, which allows your body to comfortably adjust to the increase in your exercise time.

2. Eat light meals. Heavy meals will weigh you down and zap your energy, which will lead to a decline in your stamina. Plan your meals in advance and stick to light meals that will energize you. Avoid starchy, sugar-laden foods and heavily fried meats.

3. Strength train every other day. Increase the strength in your arm and leg muscles by performing resistance exercises, such as pilates, or by using resistance bands or lifting weights. Alternate between your upper and lower body to avoid excess strain or injury.

Eat To Gain Muscle

Everyone wants to look their best. For some, that means gaining muscle mass to show off those bulging biceps, but for others, gaining muscle is a part of living a healthy, active lifestyle. No matter what your goals are, there are some guidelines for eating in order to gain muscle.

Instructions

1. Eat lean meat protein. Some bodybuilding advocates suggest a variety of proteins sources to increase muscle without gaining fat. White-meat chicken, fish and lean cuts of beef are the main sources of meat protein, although lamb and venison provide a welcome change of pace.

2. Add vegetable protein sources to your diet to supplement your meat intake. Not only do beans, legumes, soy products and cottage cheese contain protein, they provide amino acids and fiber, necessary for a healthy, active body.

3. Consider taking supplements to enhance your diet and provide muscle-building nutrients. If you're not getting enough protein from your regular eating schedule, you can purchase protein powders, made from soy or whey products and mix them with liquids for a protein-rich drink.

4. Add carbohydrates to your diet. Without enough carbs, your body goes into ketosis, a process whereby your metabolism speeds up and your body burns fat at an increased rate. Nutritional experts disagree as to whether this type of diet is detrimental to your body, specifically your kidneys and liver. Include vitamin-rich carbs that occur naturally in fruits, vegetable and whole grains.

5. Drink lots of water when eating to gain muscle. Increased protein levels put an additional strain on your kidneys, and lots of water will keep your system functioning well.

1. Number One Rule: Don't Overdress. You've got a long race ahead of you and will have plenty of time to warm up. More than likely, the weather will also warm up along with you.

2. Dress in layers. Your top layer should be disposable-an old or especially ugly race T-shirt, for example. Some runners prefer trash bags, but I find it a little demoralizing to wear those at the starting line, unless I'm standing in a downpour.

3. All your layers should be made of breathable, wicking fabric. A soggy cotton T-shirt will guarantee you stay uncomfortable during the entire race.

4. Find a shirt style that works for you. Some people like coverage, while others loathe sleeves in any weather. If a singlet is not practical on race day, add arm warmers that you can peel off and throw to a friend if necessary.

5. Of your three basic choices: running shorts, compression shorts or tights-your safest best is to stay with something shorter on your bottom half. Of course it all boils down to personal preference, but the important things to keep in mind are potential chafing and how the weather may change from start to finish.

6. Gloves are a runner's best friend when it's cold outside. Warm your hands, and the rest of your body suddenly feels toasty. If your hands get hot, tuck your gloves into the back of your shorts. You may find yourself pulling them on and off if the weather varies during the race.

7. Like gloves, a hat can warm up any outfit. Opt for a baseball cap, headband or stocking hat, depending on your hair and the weather conditions.

8. If it's very windy, consider a lightweight vest with solid coverage in the front and vents in the back and side.

9. Even if it's cold, it can still be sunny bright. Decide if you need sunglasses or a baseball cap to keep you from squinting all morning.
