Rectangular tables provide lots of room for decorations.
Decorating for a party can be challenging, especially when you have a particularly long table to work with; you'll need decor that covers the length of the table without being too overwhelming or scarce. The items used to adorn a rectangular table can be eye-catching and impressive, matching the rest of the celebration's accents, and adding to the festive party atmosphere. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Purchase a table runner that will extend the length of the table in the most noticeable color of the party decor. For instance, if you've selected light blue and matte yellow for the celebration, a yellow table runner is the bolder choice. For a party decorated in metallic shades, a gold or bronze table runner is especially elegant.
2. Line the table runner with short or votive candles in a color that complement it. For instance, blue candles along a yellow table runner bring the decor together nicely.
3. Select three or four medium-sized vases (depending on table length) that match the party colors, or glass vases.
4. Add flowers to the vases (real or synthetic) that match the party hues, or choose white flowers to make the flowers stand out while still coordinating with the rest of the table items.
5. Place the vases along the center of the table, on top of the table runner.
6. Create place settings for each of the guests who'll be attending the celebration. Select dishes that complement your color theme, or perhaps contrast it nicely (like white), and include a dinner plate, dessert plate, cup and saucer, and water or wine glass at each setting.
7. Place a cloth napkin at each place setting, folded either on top of the dinner plate or to the right of the plate. Select a napkin in the brighter party decor color (yellow in our example) or perhaps go for a print that includes yellow and blue.
8. Add eating utensils to each place setting that match the party color scheme; place the spoons and knives on the cloth napkin if the napkin is to the right of the plate. If you've used bronze and warm colors like red or chocolate to decorate, gold flatware is best; for silver decorations or a color scheme that includes blue or purple, silver utensils make a beautiful addition to the table.
9. Place a small decorative piece at each place setting that fits the celebration's theme, and can serve as a party favor or place card. For instance, if you've decorated with pearls and roses, add a synthetic rose with a large synthetic pearl hot-glued to the center of the flower next to or across each dinner plate. Write each guest's name on a small card made of stock paper. Punch a hole in the card and use the ribbon to tie it around the rose stems.
10. Sprinkle the entire table with confetti; dust the table with glitter in the same color to finish the look.
