Compute Distances Between City Points

Whether you're planning a road trip, considering moving or just satisfying your intellectual curiosity, it's easy to compute distances between locations online. Infoplease and Google Maps both offer free online distance calculators. Infoplease is more suited for people seeking exact distances, while Google Maps provides different driving and walking routes.

Instructions

Infoplease

1. Go to the Infoplease Distance Calculator at http://www.infoplease.com/atlas/calculate-distance.html.

2. Type your first location into the "Distance From" box. Type your second location into the "Distance To" box. If your city shares a name with other cities, you may need to specify the state or country.

Google Maps

4. Go to Google Maps at http://maps.google.com/.

5. Click "Get Directions" on the blue pane.

6. Type your first location into the "A" box. Type your second location into the "B" box. If your city shares a name with other cities, you may need to specify the state or country.

7. Select "by car" or "walking."
