Find Out How Fast You Run

Use this formula to find out how fast you're really running.

Whether you're training for a marathon, exercising to lose weight or just enjoying the great outdoors, running is a fun and healthy way to get outside and enjoy some fresh air while staying in shape. Many treadmills keep track of the distance you've traveled and your rate of speed, but if you're running in a park or down a few city blocks, you'll need to measure this yourself. There is an easy formula that you can use to determine your running speed.

Instructions

1. Calibrate your pedometer according to the user manual to ensure that it provides accurate readings of the distance you run. Confirm that your pedometer is turned on and working before beginning your run.

2. Hit the "Start" button on your stopwatch as soon as you begin running to keep track of your time.

3. Hit the "Stop" button on the stopwatch as soon as you finish running to get your total running time.

4. Divide your total running time in seconds by the distance in miles that you ran. For example, if you ran 2 miles in 1,000 seconds, divide 1,000 by 2 to get 500.

5. Divide the result from Step 4 by 60 to get the number of minutes that each mile took. For example, divide 500 by 60 to get an average of 8.3 minutes per mile.
