Connect a Subwoofer With Speaker Wire
Wiring a sub-woofer to an amplifier requires you to know the amps of the sub-woofer and the amplifier. For instance, if you're wiring a 400 watt, 10-inch sub-woofer you would probably want to connect it to a 450 watt amplifier. Or if you're wiring an 850 watt, 12-inch sub you would want to connect it to a 900 watt amplifier. The speaker wire should be at least 14 gauge.
Instructions
1. Mount the amplifier to the rear of the sub-woofer box. Make sure the cooling fans are facing outward away from the frame of the sub-woofer box. Loosen the wire connections for the positive and negative wires on the side of the amplifier using your screwdriver.
2. Measure and cut the length of speaker wire needed to go from the speaker connections on the rear of the sub-woofer box to the side of the amplifier. Splice the ends of each wire and remove 1/4-inch of covering from each end.
3. Insert the positive wire into the positive input on the rear of the sub-woofer box and the negative wire into the negative input. Insert the positive wire into the positive input on the side of the amplifier and tighten the securing screw with the screw driver. Repeat for the negative wire.
