Do Compression Massage

Compression is one of the many methods that can be used to give a massage. Compression is usually done in a rhythmic manner. It helps soften tissue and prepare the muscles for deeper work. Massage therapists will often use compression when giving a chair/seated massage, but compression can also be used when the client is lying down. Compression is a good way to work someone who is fully clothed.

Instructions

1. With the help of your partner choose the area that you will work. Compression massage works best on the large muscles in the back and buttocks. It also works well on the thighs and calves.

2. Start by doing some light rhythmic compression along the area using the palm of your hand. Cover the whole area in this manner a couple of times.

3. Continue to do rhythmic compression using your palm and compress more firmly. Be aware of any tight spots you feel in the muscles. Lean your body into the compression. The pressure should come from your whole body not just your arms.

4. Once you've warmed the tissue with broad compression you can narrow your tool. Try using your knuckles or thumbs to work the areas that are tight. At this point you want to combine your compression with some friction strokes to work out the tightness in the muscle. As you press your thumb or knuckle into the tissue move it slowly back and forth or side to side.

5. Once you have worked out the tension the area end the massage with some more gentle compression or some tapotement.
