Donate Used Computers In Pittsburgh Pennsylvania

Donate your unwanted computer to charity for an income tax deduction.


Each year, millions of people rid their homes and offices of old, unused computers. Because computers are not environmentally friendly they are not permitted in landfills in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania -- or any other city in the United States. If you have an old computer you want to get rid of but you don't know get rid of it, consider donating it to a Pittsburgh charity that will recycle your computer for you. Computers are thoroughly cleaned, refurbished and donated to schools, charities and other programs that are in need of usable computers.


Instructions


1. Contact a Pittsburgh charity that accepts computer donations. The Goodwill and Dell are partnered to accept and recycle any and all used computers in an effort to keep computers out of landfills and eliminate their impact on the surrounding environment.


2. Check with the Internal Revenue Service to find out if the charity you chose is a registered 501(c)3 non-profit corporation. Donating to an un-registered charity takes away your ability to claim your donation as an income tax deduction.


3. Call your chosen charity or visit their website for information on their drop off locations and hours. Computers are not permitted in drop off bins outside of charity locations. In addition, you need a tax receipt for your personal records if you are claiming your donation as a deduction on your income tax return. Tax receipts are only issued to donors during business hours.


4. Drop off your computer donation with your charity and obtain a tax receipt.
