Change The Nike Tick Color

Customize your Nike shoes with paint.

If you own a pair of Nike shoes, but you want to make them a little more personalized, you can easily change the color of the "tick," also know as the "swoosh." The tick is the well-known emblem that identifies Nike products, and it comes in many colors depending on the product or pair of shoes. You can paint the tick to give your shoes a different look, as long as you use the right kind of paint.

Instructions

1. Scrub your Nike shoes gently if they have been worn for a while and have dirt or dust on them. Use a little bit of water, mild detergent and a soft toothbrush to get in all the nooks and crannies of your sneakers and wipe them down with a wet lint-free cloth. Let them dry completely. The area that you want to change the color needs to be completely free of dirt and residue.

2. Dip a small paintbrush into some white acrylic paint and carefully paint over the Nike tick to prime the surface of the shoe. Paint around the edge of the tick first and fill and it in so you don't accidentally get paint outside the tick. Wait about 45 minutes for the white paint to dry.

3. Rinse the white paint off the paintbrush with clear running water. Pat dry on a paper towel. Dip the brush into the color that you want the tick to be and carefully apply it to your shoe. Paint the edges first and fill it in. Wait 45 minutes for the paint to dry and then add another coat.

4. Apply a clear acrylic gloss over the painted ticks to protect the paint and make the emblems shine. You can also use a satin finish or matte clear acrylic if you don't want them the ticks to be glossy. Wait at least an hour for the paint to dry before wearing your custom-colored Nike shoes.
