Cool Off After A Hot Workout

Cool Off After a Hot Workout

When the temperatures soar, it's important to add a cool-off step to your exercise routine. Try these ideas the next time you need to lower your body temperature after an outdoor workout.

Instructions

1. Immediately after a hot workout, grab some cool water and stretch out your muscles while they are still loose. Keep your head above your heart so you don't feel lightheaded or pass out.

2. Either jump in a cool swimming pool or soak in a bathtub. In the tub, once you get comfortable with the temperature, drain half the water, then refill with cold water. Repeat several times.

3. Get inside an air-conditioned room immediately after your workout. If you have a fan, turn it on high.

4. Put a cold towel on your face and neck.

5. Drink water, even past the point of thirst. Opt for cool, but not cold water because the body absorbs cool water faster.

6. Once inside, take off your shoes and hat to quickly release body heat.

7. Eat cool snacks such as frozen grapes or fruit popsicles. Avoid sugary or highly caffeinated drinks.
