Enjoy Walking Outside

Bring along your significant other and enjoy a walk outside together.

Taking a walk outdoors will not only help you commune with nature and bond with loved ones, it can also have several health benefits. According to the Mayo Clinic, walking helps a person stay fit by lowering bad cholesterol and blood pressure. It can lift a person's mood and help prevent diabetes. Instead of seeing a daily walk as a chore, find ways to make it more enjoyable so it becomes something you look forward to.

Instructions

1. Stretch before you walk. Sit on the floor and touch your toes, stretch out your arms and twist your body at the waist. This will limber-up your body and help prevent cramps and other injuries that can ruin your walk.

2. Leave behind any gadgets, including cellular phones and MP3 players. Take this time to get away from work, home and the rigors of everyday life and turn the walk into a relaxing experience.

3. Walk in a new area every day. Mix-up the scenery by walking in different parks, neighborhoods or areas of your town. This will keep you from getting bored by looking at the same trees, landmarks and homes.

4. Turn your daily walks into a family affair by asking your spouse, kids or siblings to join you, This can turn a humdrum exercise routine into an opportunity reconnect with loved ones.

5. Learn more about your state, nature and the world around you by turning the walk into an educational experience. Stroll through a state or national park, zoo, outdoor botanical garden or outdoor art exhibits.

6. Consider bird watching as a new hobby. Locate the necessary gear, including binoculars, a bird taxonomy manual and pen and paper, and keep track of the various birds (or other wild life) you see along your route. This can add a scientific element to your walk..

7. Bring along your four-legged best friend. Taking your dog for a long walk will make the trip more enjoyable. It will also have the added benefit of exercise for your dog. It can tire out your potentially hyper pet, making the time you spend with it at home less stressful.
