Convert Miles To Kilometers

Switching between customary and metric systems of measurement can be confusing. When driving a car drivers can see both kilometers and miles on the speedometer. If you're driving in another country, chances are you'll need to convert kilometers to miles and vice versa. However, this article will QUICKLY show you convert from miles to kilometers.

Instructions

1. Figure out how many miles you have initially. For example, let's say that we are trying to convert 10 miles to kilometers.

2. Multiply the number of miles you have by the "conversion factor". In this case, the conversion factor is 1.61. This is because 1 mile = 1.609344 kilometers.

So for our example we would multiply 10 miles by 1.61.

3. The result that you get is the number of kilometers that you have. So

10*1.61 = 1.61 kilometers.

4. Practice converting miles to kilometers back and forth when looking at your speedometer. Try to get a good feel for what different speeds are in kph (kilometers per hour) and also in mph (miles per hour).
