Posters deliver all kinds of messages.
Posters adorn many a room, hallway, living space and other parts of the house. They are a relatively cheap way to throw up some decorations that don't need to be framed or hung with sturdy materials. With the help of the Internet, you can design your own posters online and print them out, creating anything your heart desires.
Instructions
1. Begin your design with some ideas. What do you want to have a poster of? For example, maybe you want an inspirational poster.
2. Think about things that have to do with your poster idea. If you're creating a poster for inspiration, then you might have an inspirational quote or text at the bottom with a picture of something you find inspiring. For example, you could have a picture of a skydiver jumping out of a plane with the words at the bottom reading "Don't be afraid to be brave."
3. Consider the design elements that will portray your idea. If your poster has shapes with sharp lines and edges, it will give off a message that is more aggressive than if your poster has swirls, hearts and rainbows.
4. Arrange the elements of your poster to fit well within a rectangular boundary. Keep any text in a location that is easy to find and still legible, but do not place it over any images that you'd like to have the full view of. Do not expand your images so far that they look fuzzy when you print off your poster. Organize the elements in a way that makes sense to you. Keep it simple, but interesting.
5. Use a photo where you think it will be appropriate. If you use a photo that is sized at 4 by 6, you will not be able to scan it in and use it on a poster that is any larger than 4 by 6 without it becoming too fuzzy to recognize. You can also use your own artwork. If you'd like, sketch out some simple designs or use one from your computer.
6. Think about the message you'd like to convey with the artwork. If you want to convey joy, find joyful pictures.
7. Use a computer program that will support text and images. You can find free images on the web or scan one in of your own. Sites such as Dreamstime and Free Stock Photos will allow you to get free photos at a fairly high resolution.
8. Begin to organize your poster. Most posters have simple text that is in a font that fits with the theme. For example, a poster about love might have a cursive handwriting font. Choose a color for the text that makes it stand out enough to be read and will not clash with other colors.
9. Include the image you would like to use on your poster. If it can be used at a high resolution (meaning it can be fairly large without the image getting too fuzzy to see clearly), then you can use it to fill the whole poster. If your poster is about love, you could add an image of a heart that only takes up a fifth of the space of the entire poster and leave the background white.
10. Save the file into a folder that you can easily access.
11. Find a website that will allow you to create and print a poster. At Zazzle or Block Posters you can upload your poster design and then print it. You need to be sure that whatever you want to print is at a high enough resolution that it won't pixelate (get fuzzy) when it's blown up.
12. Upload your design online to the site you'd like.
13. Print it off with your own home printer, or have your poster shipped to you. If you print it at home, you are going to need to print it on many different sheets of paper, and then paste them together. For a more professional look, you can laminate the poster before you hang it up.
