Decorate For A Cowboy Theme

Use a horseshoe as part of your cowboy-themed decor.

Recreate the rugged charm of the Wild West in any room of your home, or carry the theme throughout your entire house with cowboy-themed decor. The laid-back feel of the cowboy-themed items will create a relaxing space in your home that is able to fit both masculine and feminine tastes at the same time with items such as candles placed alongside horseshoes and cowboy boots. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Use a hammer and nails to hang one or more horseshoes and cowboy hats on the walls, depending on how much wall space you have to cover. Use an odd number of each if hanging the items in clusters.

2. Cover a lampshade with thin rope using a hot glue gun. Use a dot of hot glue to attach one end of the rope to the back of the lampshade at the top edge. Wrap the rope tightly so the entire outside of the shade is covered. Use more dots of hot glue to secure the rope to the shade every 4 to 6 inches. Trim the excess rope when you reach the back bottom edge of the shade and use a dot of hot glue to secure this end of the rope as well.

3. Open the embroidery hoops. Again, the number of hoops you will use depends on the amount of wall space you have to decorate. Place a bandanna over each inner hoop. Replace the outer hoops on the inner hoops and tighten the screws on the outer hoops. Pull the edges of each bandanna so they are taut across the front of the hoops. Trim the excess bandanna around the edges of the embroidery hoops in the back. Hang the hoops on the wall with hammer and nails.

4. Fill a pair of cowboy boots three quarters full with gravel. Use the gravel-filled boots as bookends on a shelf.

5. Remove the lid from an old metal milk jug. Place a collection of branches in the milk jug. Position the milk jug in the corner of the room.

6. Place one or more small potted cacti on shelves, mantels, dressers, counters or any other flat surface in the room. Vary the size of the cacti slightly to create visual interest.

7. Sand a wooden shutter. Blow the resulting dust away. Paint the shutter with a coat of white paint. Let the paint dry completely then lightly sand the shutter again where normal wear and tear is most likely to occur, such as corners. Hang the shutter on the wall upside down using hammer and nails. Use the shutter to tuck photos and memos in.

8. Hang a length of twine along the top of a wall or across the top of a large vanity mirror. Use small clothespins to clip pictures and mementos to the twine.

9. Place a 2-foot-diameter circle of glass on top of a wooden barrel. Use this homemade table as a nightstand or end table.

10. Place small pillar candles in plain Mason jars on flat surfaces around the room.
