A calculator helps measure percentage decrease.
When something decreases, you can measure the decrease as a quantity, but a quantity does not give any way to know the significance of the decrease. For example, if 50 cookies are taken at an event, that could be very significant if that was all that was made and the vendor ran out. If the vendor had 1,000 sample cookies and only 50 were taken, however, that is a much less successful event. Therefore, using percentage to measure a decrease gives an observer a better idea of the significance the decrease.
Instructions
1. Subtract the second number from the first number to find the amount of the decrease expressed as a quantity. For example, if the amount of water in reserve dropped from 80 to 65, subtract 65 from 80 to get 15.
2. Divide the decrease by the original amount to find the rate of decrease. In this example, divide the decrease of 15 by the original amount of 80 to get 0.1875.
3. Multiply the decrease rate by 100 to find the percentage decrease between the two numbers. In this example, multiply 0.1875 by 100 to get 18.75 percent.
