Sermons, singing and plays are all common Christmas programs.
The holiday season is often filled with traditional programs and services. While some people might enjoy seeing the same type of play, performance or program year after year, most parishioners enjoy a variety in both message and delivery. Mix both fresh ideas with common expectations to design a Christmas program that will teach and entertain. From the people in your own home to strangers across the globe, you can find the inspiration to select the best program for your local church. Does this Spark an idea?
Instructions
1. Research prior Christmas programs at the church. Most churches will keep records of past events and programs. Talk to church staff and long-time parishioners and ask what they liked best and least about past programs.
2. Contact other churches, regardless of denomination, and ask about their Christmas programs. While not all of these ideas will fit into the vision and mission of your own church, some of these ideas can be modified.
3. Talk to family and friends. Some of the best ideas for Christmas programs will come from older members of your family. Because they have likely been to more services than younger family members, they will have more suggestions. In addition, they will be able to recall some past programs and traditions that might otherwise be overlooked.
4. Research international traditions about Christmas. Because Christmas is celebrated around the world, there are countless stories and cultural interpretations that can enrich your own Christmas program.
5. Talk to the children in the congregation. Christmas programs are often intended to help children enjoy and understand the meaning of the holiday. By speaking to this portion of the intended audience, you will gain a better understanding of the messages you need to deliver.
