Equate One Pound To Calories Burned & Carbs Burned

It is healthiest to lose no more than two pounds per week

Losing weight is easier to put into focus when you take into account the number of calories and carbohydrates you need to burn in order to lose one pound. Once you calculate the number of calories and carbs that equal one pound, you can take that number to adjust the number of calories you should burn per day. If you want to lose weight at a healthy pace of one or two pounds per week, you will need to burn up to 1,000 calories per day.

Instructions

1. Use your calculator to calculate the number of calories you need to burn to lose weight. One pound is equal to 3,500 calories, so if you want to lose 2 pounds a week, you will need to burn 7,000 calories each week or 1,000 calories each day.

2. Convert the number of carbs in grams to calories--one gram of carb is equal to four calories. Use this equation to add to the number of calories you need to burn per day in order to lose weight. Since there are 3,500 calories in a pound, divide that by four to find that one pound is equal to 875 grams of carbs.

3. Adjust the number of calories and carbs you consume and burn to lose weight. A total of 3,500 calories is required to be burned per week, 500 calories per day, if you want to lose one pound each week. Either exercise to burn this number of calories per day or cut back your calorie intake per day according to the number of pounds you want to lose per week. For instance, if you want to lose one pound a week, eat 500 calories less each day than you normally would.
