Find Out Who Owns a Franchise

Buying the products or using the services of a franchise business can provide useful and quick answers to your needs. Instructions

1. Ask the management of the franchise for the owner's name and contact information. Often times the management knows get in touch with the owner and may be willing to share that information upon request.

2. Check the name and address of the franchise on the Internet. If the business has a Web site go to the contact button and see if the owner's name and contact information are listed.

3. Contact the Chamber of Commerce in the city where the franchise is located. If the business is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, the Chamber office will sometimes have contact information for the franchise owner. Use a polite and professional tone when speaking with the Chamber representative so they will be more inclined to help you with your request.

4. Contact the business license office in the city where the franchise is located. The information there is public record. Request the name and contact information of that franchise business. Sometimes the phone numbers are outdated and out of service. However, this information is a starting point and the owner's name and physical address should be on record and accessible to you through city hall.

5. Ask the city and county property tax and sales tax office to provide you with the owner's contact information. The franchise will pay taxes and those tax bills will be in the owner's name, not the management's name.

6. Contact the corporate office for the franchise company and request information about the owner of a particular franchise. Before making the contact with corporate, be sure to call the franchise and ask if it has a store number, or site number that you can refer to when you call. If they do not have one or refuse to give it to you, you can still contact corporate and provide the exact address of the franchise you are discussing and request information about the owner.
