A charity is an organization that is uses its funds for charitable causes, such as education, financial hardships or the advancement of a religion. Charities receive special legal and tax status and must obey laws and rules from the government in which they reside, such as submitting annual tax exempt forms. To collect donations for charity, you must follow specific laws concerning charitable funds.
Instructions
1. Volunteer for a particular charity you are interested in collecting donations for. By contacting the charity directly, you will work with a volunteer coordinator to find specific locations and methods for collecting donations. The charity may have its own rules to follow or donation goals that they would like to meet.
2. Ask relatives and friends to give a donation to charity of your choice. You may want to find donations after a disaster or for a particular cause, such as pediatric cancer. Ask those who are close to you first to give directly to the charity via direct telephone, mail or website.
3. Create a website where visitors may donate directly via PayPal to a charity, or a link to the charity's website. Donors will receive receipts directly from the charity for their tax deductions rather from your own record keeping, which may be difficult to keep.
4. Place a charity badge on your own website by using a company who manage online donations such as Network for Good, or start a website to exclusively donate funds to a specific charity though a company such as Eventbrite. These companies help set up part of your own website or a completely new website to collect donations for charity. The charity badge is a fundraising widget that looks like a text box on your website that allows visitors to donate to your charity of choice by clicking on it. You will need follow all laws concerning accepting money for a charity, such as documenting all the money you receive, giving receipts to all donors, and maintaining a secure website.
5. Ask local businesses to donate their services for a charitable cause. For example, if you are raising money for a school, ask tradesman, such as carpenters and plumbers, to give their services as donations to the school, rather than money. They may be able to offer a few hours of work, which would benefit the school.
6. Host a party or event to raise money for a charity. Ask a restaurant or a homeowner to donate their venue for the charity. Ask a catering company and bar tending service to donate food and drinks. Invite guests to your charity event and sell tickets to raise money for the charity. During the event you may ask for more donation, and you may offer an auction to raise money also. Businesses and individuals may offer auction items, and donors will bid on items. All proceeds go to the charity.
