Donate A Sail Boat In Houston

Some charitable organization will accept your sailboat right out of the water.

Sailing around the Gulf of Mexico is a dream. But at a certain point that huge sailboat you've been hauling between Houston and the beach becomes more of a pain than a portal to paradise. Allowing your boat to sit there idly can cause decomposition and electrical damage. Fortunately, a number of charitable organizations servicing Houston such as Houston Helping Hands and Boat Donation will be happy to take that sailboat off your hands. You'll receive a tax deduction after donating your sailboat depending on the boat's condition. Follow a few simple directions to ensure an enjoyable sailboat donating experience.

Instructions

1. Select which organization you want to donate your sailboat. Keep in mind that a local organization may take longer, but you'll know the donation proceeds stay in the Houston area. Go to the home page of possible organizations to read their individual donation requirements regarding sailboats. Some groups, for example, won't accept a boat unless it's already on a trailer. Others offer free vacation vouchers up to $500. Examine each organization's criteria for a smooth donation.

2. Complete the online paperwork. Most organizations require basics such as your name, contact information, type of boat, working condition and whether you have the title. In Texas, you can still donate a boat without a title. Some organizations may require the Hull Identification Number located on your sailboat.

3. Wait for the phone call. Someone from the organization will typically call you within 48 hours to arrange a pickup time and ask any further questions if necessary. Plan on being home or on site during the pickup to verify any last-minute items and receive your tax deduction.

4. Give the organization the keys on pickup day and store your tax deduction form in a safe location.
