Disconnect The Governor On Golf Carts

The governor is a small piece of metal that looks like a large T. This piece is attached to the engine or motor on a golf cart where its purpose is to control your speed and keep the vehicle below a certain amount. When you disconnect the governor, there is nothing in place to control the speed, which means that you can suddenly go a lot faster. It’s probably a little easier to disconnect the governor on your golf cart than you might have thought.

Instructions

1. Place your golf cart on a jack or jack stand and jack it up until it’s high enough that you can easily slide underneath it. Depending on the make and model of your golf cart, you may be able to disconnect the governor without actually climbing underneath.

2. Find the governor by looking for a small black box behind the driver’s side. This black box is the governor. On some carts you may need to remove a plastic plate behind the seat to get to the governor.

3. Look for the cables that run out of the box to other areas of the motor and find the one that runs to the back of the golf cart. You’ll need to adjust this cable shortly.

4. Locate the nut and bolt that connect the side or arm of the governor to the transmission. Use a wrench to remove this bolt, which disconnects your governor from the motor.

5. Adjust the cable leading to the back of the golf cart so that it doesn’t hang loose or rubs the ground. You can tie the cable to the bottom of the golf cart with twist ties or a few pieces of string.
