Toyota designed the daytime running light (DRL) system on the 2000 Camry to make the car more visible to other drivers during daylight hours. The daytime running lights automatically turn on when the engine starts, and they disengage when the driver applies the parking brake. The cabin of the vehicle has no user-controllable switch that can turn off the daytime running lights. In order to disable the daytime running lights, you must remove the DRL relay from the under-hood relay center.
Instructions
1. Shift the Camry's transmission into park, and turn off the engine. Set the parking brake, and open the hood.
2. Locate the black under-hood relay center on the right side of the engine compartment, between the battery and the driver's-side fender.
3. Remove the cover from the relay center. Read the diagram on the underside of the relay center cover. This diagram shows the location of the DRL relay within the relay center.
4. Remove the DRL relay from the relay center, and replace the cover. The daytime running lights are now disabled.
