You can donate gently used clothing to help kids at your local children's hospital.
It is not uncommon for families of sick children to stay close to their children during long stays in the hospital. If they must travel to the hospital, the family may not be staying in their own home. You can provide help to these children and their families through the donation of clothes to your local children's hospital.
Instructions
1. Call your local children's hospital and ask if it has any special requirements for clothing donations. Ask about preferred detergents, or if there are any restrictions on the type of clothing you are able to donate.
2. Go through each closet in your home and decide what you want to donate to the children's hospital. If you have not worn the item in over a year, consider your real need for it, and place it in a pile for donation. Enlist the help of each person in your family, including your child. Including him reinforces the importance of donating used items to sick children in need.
3. Wash all the clothes you wish to donate. Use detergent that is free of dyes and perfumes, since the recipient of your clothes may have an allergy or illness, and their exact condition will be unknown.
4. Box up your freshly washed clothing items. Sort the clothes by type, such as boys versus girls clothing. Label each box with a marker to help your local children's hospital identify the contents easily and quickly. Include a short note thanking the hospital for its service to the sick children of the community.
5. Deliver your donations. If the children's hospital allows it, bring your child along to show her the importance of your community's hospital. Explain the meaning of donating clothes to help the patients and families assisted by the facility.
