Burn more fat
While exercise is essential for our overall health and well-being, it also helps us to stay looking good. Most of us want to burn the most fat possible when we exercise. If you've been working out and don't see the numbers on the scale budging, there are some things you can do to burn more fat while exercising.
Instructions
1. Keep an exercise journal. Write down what you do every time you exercise. If you do a cardio workout, denote the type of cardio as well as its duration. If you lift weights, mark down the exercise and the number of sets and reps. This will help you keep a clear view on what is working.
2. Vary your exercise routine. Exercises get easier the more you do them. Eventually, your body can reach a plateau and a specific exercise won't drop the pounds the way it used to. Try a different form of cardio every few days and work muscle groups in various ways, rather than the same weight-lifting routine each time.
3. Lift weights. The more muscle mass you have, the more calories your body will burn all the time. It's not enough to just drop fat, you also need to build muscle. If you already lift weights, increase the weight and the number of reps as you get stronger. Once your routine doesn't feel as challenging, increase the challenge.
4. Break up your cardio into two sessions, performed at two different times of the day. Your metabolism remains lifted after cardiovascular exercise. If you break it up into two sessions, you'll reap the benefits of the "after-burn" effect twice during your day, hence burning more calories.
5. Incorporate intervals into your cardio workouts. Rather than going at a steady pace, vary your workout with short bursts of intensity. For example, jog for five minutes and then sprint for one minute, then return to your jogging pace. Repeat this variation for a 20 to 30 minute period. Short, intense intervals help your body to burn more fat.
6. Wear a heart rate monitor when you exercise. Sometimes we may not be working out as hard as we think we are. A heart rate monitor will keep you honest.
