Buy Workout Clothes

The right clothes not only help you look great while you work out, but they also perform a function. Selecting clothes that breathe and move well with you can help you perform. Follow these steps when you're looking to buy your next set of workout clothes to make sure you get both style and function.

Instructions

1. Purchase shoes designed for the type of activities you'll be doing during your workout. Athletic shoes come in many varieties--all based on the activity you're doing such as running, aerobics or walking--so search for a specific type when you go to buy shoes. Cross-training style shoes are good for gym activities such as weight lifting, elliptical machines and aerobics. Try on shoes before buying to make sure they provide the right comfort and absorb shock well. Test this by jumping up and down in the shoes a few times.

2. Wear socks made of a cotton blend or all-cotton fiber when possible. Choose socks with micro-fiber when wearing thick socks. When feet sweat from a workout, thin socks tend to slip or allow your feet to become wet with sweat making it difficult to properly perform your workout.

3. Choose pants or shorts based on the workout you'll be doing. Wear tight fitting shorts or bicycle shorts underneath to avoid chafing and embarrassing revealing situations. Select clothing made of cotton for breathable fabric or lycra for flexibility. Any clothes that specify moisture wick technology will help keep sweat away from your body as well.

4. Consider tops with similar material as the pants or shorts you choose. Fabric should consist of cotton or lycra and have moisture wick as well. Well fitted shirts work best in most workout activities and some can even provide support for women. Loose-fitting tops do provide a larger range of motion, although they can become caught on the equipment.

5. Select underclothes that are functional, especially for women. A bra worn during workouts must fit well and hold your breasts in place during vigorous activities. Sports bras should also allow free movement of your arms and be comfortable. Wear cotton bras and underwear that have the ability to pull moisture away from the body.

6. Absorb sweat and keep the sun out of your eyes with other accessories. Hats are great when doing activities such as running and walking outside and a cap that covers ears helps keep your head and ears warm. Headbands or bandanas can also work indoors or outdoors to keep sweat out of your eyes.

7. Shop for workout clothes you find appealing and flatter your figure. Use the previous steps as a guideline and choose darker colors if you're uncomfortable with your current body type.
