Convert Weight Loss To Percentage

Losing weight is a difficult task, but is also extremely rewarding once goals are met. People base their weight loss goals on different factors, such as setting out to lose a certain number of pounds, aiming to reach a specific weight or fitting into a certain pair of pants. Some people also make it their goal to lose a certain percentage of their starting weight. The percentage of weight you have lost is easily calculated using simple math.

Instructions

1. Weigh yourself at the beginning of your weight loss regimen to determine starting weight. Write this number down somewhere that you won't lose it.

2. Weigh yourself after you have lost some weight and record the number so you can calculate the percentage that you have lost.

3. Use a calculator to divide your current weight by your starting weight. For example, if your starting weight was 200 lbs. and your current weight is 175 lbs., you will calculate 175 divided by 200 to get .875.

4. Convert the result to a percentage by multiplying by 100. In our example, when dividing 175 by 200, we get .875. After multiplying by 100, the result it 87.5.

5. Subtract your result from 100 to determine the percentage of weight you have lost. Using our example, use the calculator to find out the result of 100 minus 87.5, which is 12.5. This indicates that you have lost 12.5 percent of your original body weight.
