Calculate Run Time For Marathons

Marathons require a strong training regimen.

If you are training for a marathon, then you may want to calculate your expected run time. In order to do this, you need to know that speed equals distance divided by time. You can then use this formula to calculate the time it will take to travel that distance if you know the pace you expect to keep during the marathon. In order to do this calculation, you need to know a marathon is 26.21875 miles.

Instructions

1. Run several times and figure out how fast you run on average. To do this, you need to divide the distance you ran by the time it took you to run it. After several runs, add together all the speeds and divide the result by the number of runs. For example, assume your average speed is 3 miles an hour.

2. Change the speed formula used in the previous test to solve for time. So, time equals distance traveled divided by average speed.

3. Sub into the formula your values and solve for time. In the example, 26.21875 miles divided by 3 miles per hour equals a time of 8.74 hours.
