At the end of the day, or, more accurately, at the start of the day, the goal of makeup application is to create a natural, even and appealing look. A few makeup application tips and tricks can make your average Jane looking and feeling like a beauty queen, even if she never steps foot into a competition. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Care for your skin by using an exfoliating cleanser daily. Before starting makeup application, even skin tone is a must. Choose a cleanser that is suitable for your skin type and make exfoliating the number one priority of your daily routine to prevent breakouts and unsightly blackheads and whiteheads.

2. Choose a liquid foundation that compliments your skin tone by matching the color of choice to the skin color of your neck. Since makeup is meant to enhance the beauty that is already there, less is more. By choosing a color that you blend down towards your neck without a shade change, you'll avoid makeup lines and, ultimately, present the appearance that there's little or no foundation at all. If possible, invest in a good makeup brush to achieve an airbrushed, even look. If money's tight, simple makeup sponges will suffice in place of a brush. Blot your foundation after application lightly with a tissue to remove any excess oil.

3. Apply concealer to spots or under-eye circles that are visible. Wait until after applying foundation so to use less concealer, and ultimately extending the use of the product. Choose a concealer slightly lighter than your foundation.

4. Set concealer and foundation with a loose powder before applying blush. You can enhance and shape the appearance of your cheekbones by using a lighter, popping colored blush or bronzer on the apple of your cheek and a more subdued, slightly darker shade right underneath the cheekbone.

5. Use a primer on the eyelid to extend the wear of your makeup. With a medium-sized brush, apply shadow in a upwards, slightly circular motion, blending it towards the eyebrow. Start with less and gradually increase amount applied until desired look is reached. Use liner on both the upper eyelid. If using liner on the lower lid as well, blend it to create a natural look. Line the inner-most corner of your eye with a lighter color such as cream, icy pink or bright white to make the eyes look bigger and brighter. You can also apply the light color under the brow to highlight and open the eyes.

6. Opt for pink, nude and taupe shades of lip color. Choose your lip color based on the natural color of your lips. You can then go a couple shades lighter or darker, depending on the season, time of day or occasion. After applying lip color, top with a clear, shiny gloss.
