Donate To A Women'S Shelter

women's shelter

Many of the women and children at women's shelters have nothing other than the clothes on their backs. This means most women's shelters, which are nonprofit organizations, are in constant need of donations. Most shelters have policies regarding donation items. You must contact the shelters about what they need and where to bring donated items.

Instructions

1. Speak to a representative at the shelter about its needs at that time. Women's clothing of all sizes is usually a good suggestion. Shoes, underwear, and outfits appropriate for job hunting are usually accepted. Personal care items like shampoo, makeup, baby items, tampons, hairbrushes and combs, and other personal care items are always desirable items. Children can use toys, games, stuffed animals, books and school supplies.

2. Find out from the shelter exactly how the donation must be delivered. Some shelters may need all of its donated material sealed in a box or bag. Others may need them in clear plastic bags to help its staff separate the items. Others may allow large items to be dropped off at a designated site.

3. Check the shelter's list for what it does not accept. Some shelters do not have the staff to handle large items, and few accept any clothing for men. Some may have more of an item than it needs at that time.

4. Follow the center's rules to donate money or gift cards. This information should be available on the center's website, or call a representative for details.
