Drain A 20gallon Electric Hot Water Heater

Draining a 20-gallon electric hot water heater is a job that can be done in about half an hour. The 20-gallon water heater is a short water heater that is normally used underneath counters and small areas. It is designed with the water inlet located on the side of the tank instead of on top like the larger water heater models. You can drain the hot water heater yourself to clean out any sediment in the bottom of the tank. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

1. Flip the breaker switch for the 20-gallon electric hot water heater to the "off" position at the breaker box before draining the tank.

2. Shut off the water valve by hand on the water line at the side of the water heater. Attach a garden hose to the water spigot at the side of the water heater near the bottom.

3. Stretch the garden hose out, positioning the other end in a place where the water can be drained safely. Remember the water draining out of the hose will be hot.

4. Open the water spigot at the bottom of the water heater where the drain hose is attached, letting the water drain out of the 20-gallon electric hot water heater completely.
