Donate Computers In Boston Ma

National and local charities accept computer donations.

If you are upgrading to a new computer in Boston, you can donate your old computer instead of trashing it. National and local charities in the Boston area, including Goodwill and World Computer Exchange, accept computer donations. When you donate to a Boston area charity that is registered with the IRS, you can claim the charitable donation on your taxes. The amount that you get to claim is the fair market value, which is the price you would be able to sell the computer for in the current market.

Instructions

1. Check the fair market value of the computers on the Used Price website (see Resources). Also check your local Boston newspaper classified ads to see what similar items are selling for in the area.

2. Verify that the charity to which you are taking your computers is listed on the IRS website (see Resources). Only charities listed in the IRS database are eligible for tax deductible donations. Use the database to find a charity if you don't already have one picked out. The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection and Cambridge government websites (see Resources) also have a list of some Boston-area organizations that accept computer donations.

3. Make sure the computers work before taking them to the donation center. Typically only working computers in good condition are accepted. Pack up any accessories that go with the computers and take them to the charity donation center, unless the charity prefers for you to mail in the donation. Contact the charity to make sure they accept drop-off donations.
