The Ironman Triathlon began as a challenge between a number of Navy Seals in Hawaii who decided to combine three existing competitions on the island - the Waikiki Roughwater Swim, the Around-Oahu Bike Race and the Honolulu Marathon. Today, the Ironman Triathlon is a series of long-distance triathlon races held throughout the world as organized by the World Triathlon Corporation. The term "Ironman" or "Ironman Triathlon" refers to the annual Ironman World Championship and the series of qualifying races held globally. Finding an Ironman is the easy part, finishing one is the difficult part of the task.
Instructions
1. Determine in which Ironman event you want to participate. The Ironman qualifying series has a total of 28 events. comprised of 23 Ironman and five Ironman 70.3 events held at locations throughout the world. The Ironman triathlon consists of a 2.4-mile swim, a 112-mile bike ride and a 26.2-mile run. The Ironman 70.3, also known as the Ironman Half, consists of a 1.2-mile swim, a 56-mile bike ride and a 13.1-mile run.
2. Access the Internet and go to the event's official website. The website lists the most current information regarding all locations, dates and individual websites of the qualifying Ironman races held all over the world. As of April 2011, Ironman at the U.S. are held at Tempe, Arizona; Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; Panama City Beach, Florida; Lake Placid, New York; The Woodlands, Texas; Louisville, Kentucky; St. George, Utah and Madison, Wisconsin.
Other countries that host the Ironman are Australia, Spain, Brazil, China, France, Austria, Switzerland, Germany, England, Germany, Canada, Wales, Mexico and New Zealand.
3. Find the Ironman event closest to your desired location from the list. Go to the individual website of your chosen Ironman event to find more detailed information. For example, the official list can be found from Ironman.com while the detailed information for the Ironman event in Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain can be found in Ironmanlanzarote.com. Contact information is available for each Ironman location.
